Springer-Miller Systems Employees Give Back To Camp Ta-Kum-Ta

STOWE, VT. – June 8, 2010 – Employees of Springer-Miller Systems recently gave a day of community service in support of Vermont’s summer camp for kids with cancer, Camp Ta-Kum-Ta. The camp recently moved to a new, permanent location in South Hero, Vermont. Springer-Miller provided labor, materials, and equipment to help prepare the facility for the summer camper season.

Founded in 1984, for 24 years kids with cancer enjoyed a traditional camp experience and made many life memories with Camp Ta-Kum-Ta at Camp Holy Cross on Lake Champlain in Colchester, Vermont. When that facility became unavailable, Camp Ta-Kum-Ta found a new permanent location in South Hero, Vermont.

Employees from Springer-Miller spent the day preparing the grounds for the coming camp season. Armed with shovels, rakes, loppers and trimmers, employees worked to bring order to the existing landscape. They built several new perennial gardens, planted trees, resurrected an original split rail fence, and helped mow the large lawn. One employee even brought a tractor to assist with moving topsoil and mulch across the property. Other employees painted the newly installed safety railings on the main lodge building.

“It’s such a special camp for special kids. Everything we do here is for the kids. The kids don’t pay anything to come here. We rely on hardworking volunteers like the employees of Springer-Miller to get the work done,” commented Ted Kessler, Executive Director of Camp Ta-Kum-Ta. “We’re very thankful for their support and enthusiasm.”

“We helped make a difference in the lives of these children,” commented Larry Hall, President & CEO of Springer-Miller. “Judging by our sore muscles the following day, everyone from Springer-Miller worked very hard to help the Kessler’s prepare the camp for the summer. I am very proud of our company for their tremendous generosity and hard work. I’m quite confident we will return next year with an even larger, more energized crew.”

In addition to PSMS’s contributions, several other local businesses provided their services to make the day successful: Bristol Bus Tours drove many PSMS employees to Camp T-K-T, Grand Isle Nursery donated flowers, and North Hollow Farm donated steaks to feed the crew. We remain grateful to these organizations for their extraordinary acts of kindness and generosity.
