PAR Springer-Miller Systems Employees Raise $6,500 for Haiti Relief
STOWE, VT. – April 8, 2010 – After viewing the recent devastation wrought by the January 12th earthquake in Haiti, employees of PAR Springer-Miller Systems felt compelled to assist with the recovery. Employees for the company, headquartered in Stowe, Vermont with offices also in Las Vegas, Toronto, London and Kuala Lumpur, raised donations totaling $3,250. Inspired by the generosity of the employees, PAR Springer-Miller Systems offered to match the employees’ donations, increasing the total to $6,500.
After researching foundations and agencies, the employees selected the Haitian Health Foundation (HHF) as the beneficiary of the donation. HHF provides health care programs and services including an outpatient clinic, public health outreach and a residential Center of Hope for children and pregnant women. HHF’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of the poor, the sick, and the infirm of Jérémie and to break the bonds of poverty, which tie so many Haitians to a life of great deprivation.
Their main facilities are in Jérémie, Haiti and they also support over 100 mountain villages. The earthquake has displaced many Haitians from the capital of Port-au-Prince, resulting in an influx of over 120,000 people into Jérémie and the surrounding area. HHF is providing vital medical care and food distribution to these refuges
“We have a long and difficult road ahead to integrate the influx of refuges from Port-au-Prince into our programs. We are already seeing a big increase in people coming to our health posts – a large percentage from Port au Prince, may who have never had any health care and pregnant women who have never had a prenatal visit,” commented Marilyn Lowney, Haitian Health Foundation. “This challenge is more difficult because the earthquake story is no longer the lead story on cable news. We’d like to thank the employees at PAR Springer-Miller Systems for their confidence in our work and the generosity of their contributions.”
PAR Springer-Miller employees chose HHF as the recipient because they have had a long history in Haiti, providing aid since 1982. The organization is exclusive to Haiti and has a low overhead with $.92 of each donated dollar going directly to services for the poor.
“I am moved by the generosity of my colleagues at PAR Springer-Miller Systems in their support of the victims of the earthquake in Haiti,” commented Larry Hall, President & CEO of PAR Springer-Miller. “The magnitude of this donation makes all of us very proud.
